by Haider Yutim

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 MAY, 2011: Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he and his team of lawyers will defend their stand and will also call upon witnesses involved including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and also former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan to testify during the trials.

According to him, this is because Najib, Rosmah and Musa were also involved in this case but never called upon.

On commenting about the court’s decision, he said he was not surprised.

“It has not come as surprise that the judge’s ruling but what’s clearly shocking is that he has virtually pre-judged and taken not only prima-facie but extended beyond that by taking all the ingredients of the charge as something factual and acceptable without reasonable doubts,” said Anwar.

He said after discussing with his legal team, he has decided to go all out in his defense and declared this case in which he labels a conspiracy by calling upon Najib, Rosmah and Musa as witnesses.

Anwar also argued that during the judgement, the first doctor wasn’t called upon and the statement from the condominium’s owner wasn’t called upon in which all of them were put aside.

“It looks like they have decided to prosecute,” he said. Meanwhile, after the court’s decision, lawyer Sankara Nair said though they disappointed by the decision but nevertheless they will do what they can to make their defense.

“There’s another chance. This is not the end, this is not the final verdict. There’s another chance and then the final verdict,” said Nair.

He said they will interview about thirty witnesses including Najib and his wife.

He added that after the interview only then they will make an assessment and decide on who they will call upon.

The High Court Judge Justice Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah has decided that Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to enter defense in the sodomy case after reading out the case notes has said the witnesses has proved all the facts and therefore has called the accused to enter his defense.

The judge has set the trial on the 6 to 30 June, 2011.
