Adenan Satem Ketua Menteri Sarawak yang baru

Tan Sri Adenan Satem akan mengambil alih jawatan ketua menteri Sarawak daripada Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. Perkara ini diumumkan Taib selepas menyerahkan surat peletakan jawatannya kepada Yang DiPertua Negeri (TYT) Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng hari ini. Peletakan jawatan Taib akan bermula pada 28 Februari.

Bekas Menteri Sumber Asli dan Alam Sekitar, Datuk Seri Adenan Satem dilantik kembali dalam kabinet kerajaan negeri Sarawak sebagai pegawai khas di pejabat Ketua Menteri yang bertaraf menteri.

Pelantikan yang berkuatkuasa 2 April itu dibuat selepas rombakan kecil kabinet Sarawak hari ini.

Ketua Menteri Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud berkata jawatan Adenan (kiri) yang juga anggota dewan undangan negeri (Adun) Tanjung Datu itu setaraf dengan jawatan menteri penuh.

"Berdasarkan kepada pengalaman Adenan  kita berharap beliau boleh melaksanakan tanggungjawab dalam jawatan baru beliau ini khasnya berkaitan bidang maklumat dan penyiaran," katanya kepada Bernama selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat kabinet negeri di Wisma Bapa Malaysia di Kuching hari ini.

PANAS! Aset Taib Mahmud & Keluarga bakal dibeku

KUCHING: Governments in eight countries have been urged to freeze assets belonging to Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud and his family members following a disclosure today that 49 companies over there were linked to him.

Anti-corruption and anti-money laundering authorities in the eight nations were also urged to launch investigations into Taib-linked businesses.

Revealing the names of the 49 companies, the Swiss-based Bruno Manser Fund (BMF) said: “The Bruno Manser Fund has today released a blacklist of companies related to the family of Abdul Taib Mahmud, the long-serving Chief Minister of the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

“The blacklist contains the names and company numbers of 49 companies in eight countries which are thought to be worth hundreds of millions, if not billions, of US dollars. A considerable number of the companies are active in the real estate and property sector.”

The list included 13 Malaysian companies and firms in Australia (10),Canada (nine), Hongkong (seven), US (four), British Virgin Islands (three) and Jersey (one).

Among the Malaysian companies, the most notable is the Taib family-owned Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) which incidentally is the state’s largest private company, and the Ta Ann logging group.

The other companies listed are Sakto, an Ottawa-based property developer and London-based Ridgeford Properties which deals in high-end realty. Also on the list is Wallysons Inc, the owners of the FBI Northwestern Regional Headquarters building in Seattle.

FMT previously reported that Wallysons Inc was believed to be co-owned by Taib’s son and Kota Samarahan MP Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib and son-in-law, Sean Murray.

CMS was involved in the construction of the Bakun hydroelectric dam and the RM300 million parliament building in Kuching.

Prosecute the Taibs

BMF’s list confirms extensive reports, which have been circulating on the web in recent months, about Taib’s colossal wealth in Sarawak and abroad derived from corruption and the destruction of the state’s rainforest through logging and oil palm plantations.

“The blacklist’s intention is to help the listed countries’ anti-corruption and anti-money-laundering authorities identify and freeze illicit Taib assets in their countries.

“Corruption has been identified as one of the main drivers of deforestation in Sarawak,” BMF said, adding that in 2007, the Tokyo tax authorities had uncovered a massive corruption scheme involving kickbacks to the Taib family.

In return for payments to Taib’s family, nine Japanese shipping companies had received export licences to carry logs to Japan, Sarawak’s largest timber export market.

Described as one of the most corrupt politicians in Southeast Asia, Taib’s illicit wealth has also been blamed for the state’s poverty status.

Land grabs and illegal logging have deprived Sarawak’s indigenous communities of their land and livelihood.

“Taib and his family members have illegally acquired assets worth billions of dollars in Malaysia, Canada, the UK, Australia, US and other countries.

“These assets should be restituted to the people of Sarawak, and the Taib family should be prosecuted for corruption, abuse of public funds, fraud, money-laundering, tax evasion and other related crimes” a posting on the BMF site stated.

Global pressure

BMF is also mobilising international political pressure against Taib and his family and had launched an online signature petition against timber corruption.

Taib, who has helmed Sarawak since 1981, holds three key portfolio as Chief Minister, Minister of Finance and State Planning and Resources Minister.

Together, the three portfolios collectively give him a RM38,000 a month salary and allow him “god-like” powers over every aspect of Sarawak life.

Online newsportal Sarawak Report has in recent months exposed Taib’s billion dollars worth of foreign properties in Australia, Canada, the US and London, native customary rights (NCR) lands being leased to his crony companies and members of his family and land grab issues.

Meanwhile, DAP has also accussed Taib of failing to account for a staggering RM4.8 billion of Sarawak’s funds over the past three years alone.

Several parties have lodged reports against Taib through the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), but no action has been taken todate.

Villagers lodge police report against logging company owned by Chief Minister Taib Mahmud's sister Raziah.

KUCHING: Twenty-four longhouse folk representing 14 longhouses and villages have lodged police reports against Quality Concrete Sdn Bhd and its contractor Loyal Billion Sdn Bhd at the Sungai Maong police station for alleged cheating.

The reports were lodged on behalf of some 200 villagers who claimed that they were cheated when they were coerced into signing the deed and undertaking to Loyal Billion. They claimed many of them are illiterate.

The deed and undertaking signed between Loyal Billion and the natives allowed the company to enter and log timber in the natives’ native customary rights (NCR) land and “pulau galau” (communal forests).

Each of the family was given RM250 upon signing the deed and undertaking.

The Quality Concrete company, which is owned by Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud’s sister Raziah, is the licence holder to extract timber from 3,305 hectares of communal forests in the Sebangan/Sebuyau area and has given the contract to Loyal Billion to extract timber.

Last week at the Kuching High Court, the natives were granted an interim injunction against Quality Concrete, Loyal Billion, Penghulu Merum and Agu Anak Kaleng to stop them from entering the area.

‘Natives exploited’

Loyal Billion is, however, filing its defence against the injunction next week and has passed the deed and undertaking and other evidence to lawyers representing the natives, saying that it has obtained the rights to enter and log timber in the area.

“When we look through the deed and undertaking, it is obvious that the natives have been exploited and their ignorance of the law and their illiteracy were taken advantage of,” said Numpang Anak Suntai, spokesperson for the natives who was present at the police station.

“Some complained that they never signed the deed and undertaking, but others signed on their behalf,” said Numpang.

As they are illiterate, they thumb-printed the document.

In the deed and undertaking, the villagers lost everything including their rights to their land and their “pulau galau”, he said.

Realising that they have been cheated, the villagers then lodged police reports against Loyal Billion, he said.

Numpang called on the police to carry out an immediate investigation.

'Sarawak is Taib's own Sdn Bhd'

We have learnt a few things in the last few weeks. The governments in Tunisia and Egypt fell. There were no sudden eruptions of violent overthrow.

The two leaders who governed the two countries ruled firmly; they had control over the suppressive resources of the military and the police and they gave their people development.

The leaders were all rich people and had plenty of money.

But in the end, money and wealth were no longer considered important determinants and were not able to contain years of frustrations, anger and pent-up disillusionment among the masses.

Small and sometimes imperceptible changes here and there were not taken seriously by the leadership.

That is until things reach a tipping point. In Tunisia, the tipping point was when a petty trader set himself ablaze.

Perhaps Gary S Becker, a Nobel prize-winning economist, summed it best when he wrote:

“Analytically, what happens is that over time such a regime may be shifting in unnoticed ways from stable equilibrium positions, where the government is in complete control, to an unstable equilibrium where seemingly small events trigger massive changes, including the ouster of the government.

“The overthrow of the government may be quick and without much violence, as in the East German and Tunisian cases, or involve considerable violence, as during and especially after, the Iranian revolution.”

Festering fear

Another equally reputed economist, Richard Posner, noted that there were several reasons for an “overthrow.”

“The obvious one is lack of information. A government that uses intimidation, surveillance, and control of media to quell dissent deprives itself of good information about the population’s concerns.

“People keep their concerns to themselves out of fear. Grievances are driven underground, to fester.

“Not having a good handle on what people want, the government risks being blindsided by a sudden explosion of repressed anger.

“Repression also fosters conspiracy; fearful of expressing themselves publicly, people learn to form secret cabals; they become experts at dissimulation.

“Second, the leadership of an authoritarian regime has difficulty obtaining information even from its own officials, or more broadly of managing disagreement and absorbing and responding to criticism.

“Without fixed terms of office and rules of succession, the position of leaders is insecure: they maintain their position by charisma or fear, by projecting an image of infallibility and omniscience, and these sources of power are undermined by criticism, which is often implicit in ‘bad news’ conveyed to leaders by their subordinates.

“Even without being critical, the subordinate who warns his leader about popular disaffection is implicitly claiming to have knowledge that the leader did not have.

“Third, and again attributable to the absence of set rules for peaceful transition of leaders, authoritarian regimes tend to be conservative in the sense of being reluctant to change even in response to known problems.

“If you do not have a good handle on public opinion, it is very difficult to predict the consequences of change – change may convey weakness, create expectations that cannot be fulfilled, empower the advocates of change, and undermine belief in the infallibility and omniscience of the leadership.

“Fourth, and again related to the absence of regular rules of appointment and succession, the leadership of authoritarian regimes tends to be old and sclerotic. Retirement is dangerous. The leader will have made enemies and when he relinquishes power he is defenceless against them.”

“By clinging to power he grows out of touch, and is ill-equipped to respond decisively and effectively to a challenge.”

People must decide

The things that happened in Tunisia and Egypt belonged to the realm of chaos theory.

A simple analogy of this theory is like when we rock a canoe. The canoe contains the momentum of disequilibrium until we rock it once more and the canoe overturns.

The initial conditions or the initial stimuli seemed at first remote and insignificant but over a period generates widespread effects.

In the case of Sarawak, we don’t know which will generate “an effect”. It could be the (online) articles about (Chief Miinister) Taib Mahmud’s personal fabulous wealth.

Or maybe even articles of his family’s decadent and opulent lifestyle amplified with unbounded pomposity which appeared in lifestyle magazines like Tattler, Passion.

Or maybe it will be his business deals with a set of cronies.

On the whole, although these are taken dismissively, I am sure one of them will precipitate his downfall.

There’s one thing that Sarawakaians in general must realise.

When it was ruled by the Brooke family, Sarawak was actually run by a private limited company.

Except for a brief period, when Sarawak was ruled and governed by some fragments of democratic institutions directly elected by the public, Sarawak is essentially now back under the rule of a limited company.

Except the company is now owned by a native of the soil – a Melanau by the name of Taib Mahmud.

Sarawak is run like a personal fiefdom where the “king” dispenses with largesse to whosoever he has taken a fancy and who he thinks fit into his strategic interests.

Sarawakians need to ask this question – do they still want to be ruled by a sendirian berhad or empower themselves by electing a democratic government? - FMT

Sarawak Report .... meragui kenapa Elia dan rakan-rakan seagamanya berani beraksi untuk juru-juru gambar? Kita dapat simpulkan bahawa keberanian seperti itu wujud dari dalam keluarga mereka, di mana keluarga-keluarga Islam dari golongan kebanyakannya tetap mendidik anak-anak mereka untuk hidup dan bertindak sebagaimana dituntut oleh agama Islam.


Selain bergelumang dengan alcohol, Elia juga berani berpakaian menjolok mata di khalayak ramai dan bukannya berpakaian menutup aurat seperti yang diharapkan oleh wanita-wanita Islam yang lain dan juga golongan lelaki yang mentadbir kerajaan BN, termasuk juga bapa saudaranya, Taib Mahmud.
Umat Islam, khasnya kaum Muslimin di Malaysia pernah dikejutkan oleh suatu kes di mana seorang model Muslim yang pernah ditahan kerana meminum bir di sebuah restoran hotel tetapi kemudian telah dikecualikan dari hukuman sebatan, tetapi, sebaliknya tidak bagi Elia.
Mungkin Taib sekeluarga selalu memikirkan bahawa mereka berada di atas undang-undang, di mana mereka menggubal undang-undang hanya untuk dikenakan ke atas orang lain.



Kami ingin mencadangkan kepada Taib untuk membuat pertimbangan sewajarnya bagaimana beliau harus mendidik ahli-ahli keluarganya, meneladani kes Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno. Elia, seperti mana yang kita ketahui pada entri terdahulu merupakan pewaris kepada harta yang bernilai berjuta-juta ringgit yang diterimanya daripada bapa saudaranya Taib, dalam bentuk tanah-tanah yang dirampas dari orang-orang asal. Justeru itu, Elia sudah pastinya telah melanggar undang-undang.
Pakcik Taib, kami ada menyimpan banyak lagi gambar yang menunjukkan ahli-ahli keluarga pakcik yang menunjukkan mereka berpakaian menjolok mata, gelas-gelas alkohol, barangan-barangan kemas mereka, walaupun pakcik sering berkhutbah sebagai seorang Muslim (mengalahkan seorang imam), tetapi akan menyebabkan mereka merasa marah terhadap pakcik. Kenapa SPRM tak siasat kekayaan Taib Mahmud?

SARAWAK: Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak takut dengan Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud menjadi antara punca utama Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) tidak mengambil tindakan terhadap Ketua Menteri Sarawak itu.

Pengerusi Majlis Pimpinan Negeri KEADILAN Sarawak, Baru Bian, berkata ia dapat dilihat melalui sikap berdiam diri SPRM walaupun pendedahan mengenai kekayaaan Taib Mahmud kerap didedahkan.

Bercakap kepada Suara Keadilan, Baru Bian menyifatkan sikap pengecut Najib menyebabkan SPRM tidak berani menjalankan tanggungjawab dan hanya bersikap menunggu arahan pihak atasan.

“Najib percaya Taib Mahmud mampu memberi kemenangan dalam pilihan raya Sarawak. Ini yang menyebabkan sampai sekarang dia (Taib) tidak disiasat SPRM.

“Bagi Najib, yang penting bukan rakyat tetapi kemenangan kerusi. Banyak berlaku penyelewengan, tetapi tiada apa tindakan yang diambil daripada mana-mana pihak,” katanya.

Baru Bian berkata, jalan terbaik untuk menjatuhkan Taib Mahmud ialah melalui pilihan raya umum akan datang ekoran keengganan ketua menteri itu melepaskan jawatannya lebih 30 tahun berkuasa.

“Diktator seperti itu susah diajar. Kaedah terbaik untuk jatuhkan beliau melalui pilihan raya memandangkan Najib sendiri tidak mengambil sikap sewajarnya sebagai Perdana Menteri,” katanya.

Beliau turut menggesa rakyat Sarawak belajar dari pengalaman Mesir yang menggulingkan pemerintah kuku besi.

“Semua rakyat Sarawak mesti ambil iktibar, bagaimana rakyat bersatu menjatuhkan pemimpin yang menindas dan membelakangkan kepentingan orang ramai,” katanya.

Taib Mahmud halang DSAI masuk Sarawak

KOTA KINABALU: Embattled Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud may soon slap a “persona non grata” order on Jeffrey Kitingan and Anwar Ibrahim, two influential opposition leaders.

Insiders in the know have tipped off FMT that Taib’s circle is mulling the drastic action to stop the two from bolstering the state opposition PKR and SNAP ahead of the impending state election.

An insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Taib’s political aides recently suggested state use its powerful immigration powers to deny entry to few peninsular opposition leaders, notably Anwar, and Jeffrey from Sabah.

Apparently this is to stem the tide of critical views, especially from the Dayaks who are questioning Taib and his 30-year regime.

Taib, however, sidestepped the idea for the time being, convinced that such action might not necessarily weaken the opposition groups but could instead embolden more people to go up openly against him.

Recently a political secretary to Taib issued a warning to Sarawakians not to fall into the trap of Jeffrey.

Observers said his statement underlines the worries of Taib’s men on the expanding clout of the leader of United Borneo Front (UBF) among the Dayaks.

Possible threat

Asked on the possibility of such an order, academician Dr Dusit Jaul, who is also Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association president, said: “It is a real possibility… if Jeffrey and Anwar are deemed a threat to the state.”

Sarawak Dayak National Union president, Mengga Mikui, also agreed with Dusit that Taib might slap a ban on the two opposition leaders, especially in the run-up to the crucial state election.

The Sarawak government has been banning outside politicians and social activists for years from entering the state.

Among the recent victims were DAP leader Lim Kit Siang, Subang MP R Sivarasa, Padang Serai MP Gobalakrishnan and Sabah Suhakam commissioner, Jannie Lasimbang.

Sarawak and Sabah derive their powerful immigration power from the Part VII (Section 61-66) under Special Provision for East Malaysia of the Malaysian Immigration Act 1959/1963. This gives the states unfettered power to decide who can and cannot enter the states.

The Act also empowers the two states to ban locals from leaving the states by impounding their passport. In Sarawak, there are anti-logging activists who had been slapped with this order.

Kekayaan Taib Mahmud heboh di internet

KUALA LUMPUR: Sebuah video dokumentari bertajuk ‘Bloody Wealth’ atau ‘Harta Berdarah’ Ketua Menteri Sarawak, Tan Sri Taib Mahmud di laman youtube, hari ini hampir mencecah 30,000 penonton dalam masa singkat.

Video yang mengulas kronologi pentadbiran Taib Mahmud sejak 30 tahun lalu itu dimuat naik dari akaun ‘tarnaktaib’ sejak 18 Disember 2010.

Antara yang didedah dalam klip hampir lima minit itu adalah persoalan mengenai kekayaan Taib Mahmud sedangkan rakyat Sarawak antara paling miskin di Malaysia.

Video dengan suara latar berbahasa Melayu, mengupas dakwaan kerosakan di Sarawak, termasuk pengambilan tanah orang Penan, monopoli pembalakan dan peranan keluarga Taib Mahmud dalam pentadbiran di Sarawak.

Ia turut memetik laporan dari blog Sarawakreport.com yang mendakwa Taib mempunyai harta kekayaan berjumlah USD80 juta di Kanada dan USD60 juta di London.

Selain itu, peranan syarikat Cahaya Mata Sarawak atau disebut sebagai ‘Chief Minister & Sons’ dipapar melalui montaj imej dan didakwa ‘menyapu’ semua projek pembinaan jalan raya, memasang paip dan membina kilang.

Turut disentuh ialah kongkongan melampau terhadap media di Sarawak dan kekangan terhadap aktivis yang mempejuang nasib rakyat Sarawak dengan memperalat polis dan samseng.
