PERAK RELIGIOUS DEPT PROBE ALL PARTIES IN SEX CONFESSION

By HAH FOONG LIAN

IPOH: The Perak Religious Department will investigate all parties, including the Chinese nationals and one Mohamad Imran Abdullah, named in the sex bribe confession of former Perak Tengah district councillor Zul Hassan.

State Religious Department director Datuk Jamry Sury said a committee would be set up to investigate various aspects of the complaint lodged by Zul and businessman Fairul Azrim Ismail against Mohamad Imran.

The committee will first study the existing Syariah enactments which the department could act against the two who had admitted to the illicit sex, he said Tuesday.

“We will also investigate the alleged illicit sex act, the said involvement of the Chinese nationals and Mohamad Imran who is accused of being the organiser,” he added.

Zul, who had been charged with corruption, had lodged a complaint with the Perak Religious Department and had admitted to having illicit sex with a Chinese national.

Zul had also accused Mohamad Imran of being the person responsible in organising and promoting the sinful act by providing the woman to him and two others at the Kuala Kangsar rest area on Aug 14.

Jamry, who will be heading the committee, said the members would meet after the Hari Raya celebrations to look at the various aspects of the investigation.

The committee, he said, would also gather information and evidence from various sources in the course of its investigation.

We want to proceed properly and systematically so that the department will not be confronted with any difficulties later, he said.

Jamy noted that under Syariah law, witnesses must be produced in an alleged crime committed.
“Now we only have people confessing to the alleged sinful act,” he said.

On possible actions that could be taken against the parties involved, Jamry said the department would commence possible prosecution after the corruption trial of Zul and four others had concluded in the civil court.

“In the meantime, we will conduct our own investigation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Perak Puteri Umno chief Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin welcomes the decision of the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government in sacking Zul for his admission to illicit sex.
