Politician detained under Emergency Ordinance - malaysiakini

JOHOR BARU, Nov 19 – A 44-year-old politician was detained under the Emergency Ordinance two days ago for suspected involvement in crime syndicates in Johor.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff, who confirmed this, said the man, who is from Masai, was detained under the Emergency (Public Order and Crime Prevention) Ordinance 1969.
“The Home Minister (Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar) signed the consent for his detention effective on Nov 17,” he told reporters here today.
Mohd Mokhtar said the man was arrested on Sept 20 for involvement in serious crimes and disrupting public order.
The man had been sent to the Simpang Renggam detention centre, where he would be detained for two years, he added. – Bernama
