KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — DAP leader Lim Kit Siang today filed a suit at the High Court here against media giant New Straits Times Press Berhad for an allegedly defamatory news report published last week in its Malay daily Berita Harian.
The Ipoh Timur MP claimed he had been defamed in a November 2 article titled “Tindakan Kit Siang tuduh Umno kafir melampau”.
“I never said it. I was not even at the ceramah,” the veteran politician told reporters at the courthouse.
Lim (picture) was referring to the Berita Harian report that cited him as calling Umno members “infidels” on the stump in the recent Galas by-election.
DAP chairman Karpal Singh, who is also Lim’s lawyer, said they will be filing a similar action against Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam in the next few days.
The newspaper had attributed some of the remarks published to Mohd Ali, who is also a veteran member of Umno, the senior party in the ruling front. - TMI
