Rombakan Kabinet : Azalina, Tg Adnan kembali. KJ Timbalan Menteri

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18: UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's long wait for a cabinet post may be over soon, if speculation about a cabinet reshuffle that will see him being promoted to a deputy minister, turns about to be true.

Rumour also has it that UMNO information chief, Ahmad Maslan, who has been in the news lately for being tasked at defending the government from criticisms by Felda settlers, will be made a minister.

According to one source, prime minister Najib Razak's new cabinet lineup will be unveiled next week or early December.

But there is bad news for four current cabinet members, who are said to be missing from the new list.

The are Youth and Sports minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Works minister Shaziman Mansor, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Ng Yen Yen, the embattled Tourism minister.

Depending how one looks at it, several ministers will be demoted or promoted, including Home minister Hishamuddin Hussein who will ve moved to look after the Defence ministry.

The comeback kids this time include UMNO secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansur and Azalina Othman, both of whom are being speculated to be given ministerial posts.

The move, if true, comes amid another strong rumour: that the general election is around the corner, a belief among political analysts which had been recently fuelled by Barisan Nasional's impressive performance in the Batu Sapi and Galas by-elections.

A cabinet post for Khairy, even as a deputy minister, would therefore be considered as 'prized', coming as it does just before the next general election.

The Rembau member of parliament has earlier been twice snubbed by Najib, and to rub insult on injury, his contender who he defeated in the race for the UMNO Youth earlier, Mukhriz Mahathir, was appointed as deputy minister - HD
