KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Former PKR central leadership council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin will leave the party soon for another Pakatan Rakyat (PR) component party, sources said.

The Malaysian Insider understands that Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, has discussed the matter with his close friends in PKR and feels “the time has come” for his exit.

“Yes, it’s true... Chegubard has made a decision (to quit PKR). He just hasn’t announced it yet,” a friend of Badrul Hisham from Negeri Sembilan told The Malaysian Insider.

“There are many reasons why Chegubard has decided to leave, from restrictions on programmes and Chegubard’s still unresolved complaints about last year’s party election.”

A source at PKR headquarters confirmed there were rumours that Badrul Hisham intends to quit but could not confirm the news.

“I heard Chegubard has recently shared his views with several followers and supporters,” said the source.

The source also said several senior PKR leaders were prepared for a quit announcement by Badrul Hisham, who last year turned down his appointment as PKR deputy secretary-general following his defeat in the party polls.

A source also told The Malaysian Insider that Badrul Hisham will likely join DAP or PAS after he quits PKR.

“There’s a good chance it will be DAP because the party needs Malay members and leader and Chegubard feels he can make a contribution through DAP,” the source said.

In his latest blog entry, Badrul Hisham touched on DAP and the party’s need for Malay leaders.

He wrote: “DAP is not anti-Malay but the media and parties in power have created a fear among Malays of the party’s domination within the Chinese community.”

Badrul Hisham said if DAP wished to show it is a multi-racial party, it should field some Malay candidates in elections.

“If DAP does this, then the party will receive support from a proportion of the Malays in the coming election,” he said.

Badrul Hisham, who is PKR Rembau chief, had contested against Khairy Jamaluddin for the Rembau parliamentary seat in Election 2008 but lost to the Umno Youth chief
