Bersih 3.0 Gets Green Light |
KUALA LUMPUR, 10 APRIL, 2012: The Home Ministry said that it is allowing Bersih 3.0 rally to proceed with condition that the participants follow provisions of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2011 and cause no disruptions, reported Malaysiakini. "The government does not view their plans as a security matter. In the spirit of the PAA we will not prevent them from gathering as long as no laws are broken. "They can assemble, but don't inconvenience the public or disrupt public order," said Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein at a press conference in the Parliament lobby today. However, the minister did not provide a direct answer when asked about the rally organizer's plans to use Dataran Merdeka as the venue. "Talk to the police and find a more suitable venue that would not cause any disruption to the public," said Hishammuddin. The Bersih 2.0 committee recently announced that its next rally for electoral reform will be held at Dataran Merdeka on April 28 at 2pm. - The theme of the rally this time is ‘Duduk Bantah’ (sit-down protest), and will be held simultaneously nationwide. The rally will also be joined by the green NGO coalition Himpunan Hijau which will hold its protest against the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp) in Gebeng, Pahang - MD |
