PAS dan DAP di Selangor dah OK : nizar news

By Neville Spykerman

SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 – After a two-hour sit-down today, PAS and DAP leaders in Selangor declared an end to their animosity over a slew of issues which have destabilised the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state government.

Leaders from the two PR parties stepped out of their meeting today pledging to defend the state administration and ensure its stability amid speculation that some of the alliance’s lawmakers were prepared to defect to Barisan Nasional (BN).

PAS and DAP have been at loggerheads over a host of issues, including the ban on beer in Muslim majority areas and the Select Committee for Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

However, PAS Commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali declared that both issues had already been resolved, although the issues were discussed.

There are differences between the two parties in terms of views and principles, said Hasan, but “in the spirit of friendship”, these differences, including the sale of beer and Selcat, can be overcome.

“Both sides realise there is a lot of room for cooperation and will use the avenues available.”
They also agreed to avoid letting differences of opinions and views affect the image of the PR state government.

Hasan added that more meetings of a similar nature will be held between the two parties, and will also be extended to PKR.

Leaders from both sides put on a united front during the press conference after the meeting, which was described as civil and frank.

PJ Utara MP Tony Pua said both sides aired their views during the meeting.

“I said what I had to say, and I am happy with that.”

Klang MP Charles Santiago said there was an acknowledgement during meeting that both side had been playing to the gallery by raising issues in the press.

“Both sides had gone overboard, so internal mechanisms will be found to resolve issues internally.”

He said it was agreed that leaders would keep the channels of communications open and avoid going to the press. - TMI
