KUALA LUMPUR: Two lawyer brothers, under police custody to facilitate investigations into the murder of cosmetics queen Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three other people, have appointed a lawyer to represent them.

Ravi Nekoo, from Hakemarabi & Associates, said in a press statement today that family members of the lawyers had appointed him on Sept 12.

"We have since formed a defence team," said the criminal-cum-civil lawyer who has been practising for the past 15 years.

The lawyer brothers and six others have been remanded until Friday.

Sosilawati, 47, her driver, Kamaruddin Shamsuddin, 44, lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32, and CIMB Bank officer Noorhisham Mohammad, 38, went missing on Aug 30, after they went to Banting, Selangor over a land deal.

Police found that the four were killed, their bodies burnt and the ashes strewn in rivers near Ladang Gadong, Tanjung Sepat near Banting.

Nekoo said, by way of a letter dated Sept 14, the legal firm had notified city Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah on their appointment and requested that defence counsel be given access to their clients.

"As there is every likelihood that these arrested persons would be charged in court soon, it is necessary for the suspects to be allowed access to the defence team immediately.

"We urge the IGP (inspector-general of police) to immediately allow the defence team access to our clients," he said
