6 laporan polis dibuat terhadap suspek utama kes Sosilawati

Banting murders: Six police reports lodged against lawyer, brother

Bernama - KUALA LUMPUR: Six police reports have been lodged against a lawyer and his brother, the main suspects in the Banting murders, of which all are related to cheating cases, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein told the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said the reports were lodged at the Banting police station on Aug 19, 2005; Oct 20, 2005; Feb 20, 2009; March 18, 2010 as well as Sept 13 and 14, 2010.

He said that two of the reports had been settled -- one had been brought to the court while the investigation papers of the other one had been submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

"One of the cases has been closed because the complainant had withdrawn the report while the three other reports are still being investigated," he said in reply to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur), Zulkifli Noordin (Bebas-Kulim Bandar Baharu) and Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong).

Lim wanted to know the types of reports lodged against the two brothers who are suspects in the Banting murders, and the actions taken by police.

The Banting murders refers to the deaths of cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya, 47, her driver Kamaruddin Shamsudin, 44, lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32, and CIMB Bank officer Noorhisham Mohammad, 38, who went missing after going to Banting, Selangor, over a land deal.

Police found out that the four had been killed, their bodies burnt and the ashes thrown into rivers in the vicinity of Ladang Gadong near Banting, and arrested eight suspects to help in the investigation into the murders.

Hishammuddin said it was not true that police did not act to investigate the reports against the suspects, adding that there had been no missing person report lodged in connection with the suspects.

"There was a report lodged by Allal Kathan Kasi, the brother of Indian businessman A. Muthuraja on March 29, 2010 at the Klang police station. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

"The suspect in this (A. Muthuraja) case is not the main suspect in the murders of Datuk Sosilawati and three others.

"The missing person report over the disappearance of Muthuraja in connection with the suspect was only lodged on Sept 8 by Muturaja's wife S. Usharani after the media reported about Sosilawati's case," he said.

Replying to Lim's supplementary question whether an open investigation would be carried out to restore public confidence in the police, Hishammuddin said the confidence would only be undermined if there were people portraying negative pictures of the force.

He said police statistics showed that from 2000 to August this year, there were 35,473 missing person reports lodged and that of the total, police managed to solve or find the missing persons in 21,344 cases.

"This is indeed a good achievement," he said
