KUALA LUMPUR: A Kelantan fan collapsed and died while trying to make his way through the crowd after the Selangor-Kelantan Malaysia Cup quarterfinal match at the Shah Alam Stadium Tuesday night.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Noor Azam Jamaluddin, said the body of Che Karma Sulaiman, 39, from Bachok, Kelantan was sent to the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for post-mortem.

"According to Che Karma's colleague, his friend who was seated at Level 5 of the stadium had complained of breathing difficulties during the match but claimed he was okay when asked.

"However, when coming out of the stadium after the match, his condition got worse. He later collapsed and was pronounced dead," he told Bernama when contacted yesterday.

At the same time, there was a fracas outside the stadium as fans from both sides started provoking each other but fortunately the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) quickly intervened and prevented any untoward incidents.

However, a Selangor fan suffered an injury to his head, believed to be caused by an object thrown from the crowd. He was later sent to the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the quarterfinal match yesterday saw Kelantan and Selangor play to a goalless draw while the second leg will be played at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Saturday - Malay Mail
