Selangor akan saman SYABAS

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — The Selangor governent is waiting for the right time to take the water company SYABAS to court to have its licence withdrawn, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid said today.

He believed that the action would be taken considering that SYABAS was ignoring the state government’s directive to stop its Tabung Budi programme.

“We are awaiting a reply from them. If they continue (with what they are doing), it would be easier for us to prove in court that they have gone against the agreement to supply water,” he told reporters here.

Khalid said that SYABAS had no right to collect donations through Tabung Budi from consumers who receive subsidies from the state government.

Selangor residents receive 20 cubic metres gratis from the state government worth RM11.40.

The Budi Fund that SYABAS launched last Aug 24 allows residents to waive this subsidy for the company to use the money to help other residents who have no access to clean water. — Bernama
