Zaid Ibrahim lancar KITA

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, less than two months after leaving PKR, launched his own party KITA today.

He stressed that KITA, Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air, was not formed to take over the administration in Putrajaya.

It was to bring change to politicking and political values, he told reporters after the launch here.

"We are an independent party and not under Barisan Nasional or the opposition partnership under (Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim)," he said.

Zaid left PKR in mid-November after alleging irregularities in the party elections in which he contested for the deputy presidency.

Zaid said KITA, billing itself as Moderate, Democratic, Liberal, has 300 members but hopes to increase that very soon to between 4,000 and 5,000.

KITA was now in the process of being registered. The papers were sent to the Registrar of Societies on Dec 15 last year.

Earlier in his speech, Zaid said that the opposition should be constructive and be able to survive change.

"The opposition, with Anwar Ibrahim as its leader, will continue to play to your emotions, will continue to lead you on that bridal path, saying anything in order to take over Putrajaya, in order to cast aside his own personal problems.

"Pas will not abandon its Islamic state agenda and the DAP is gravely mistaken if they think they are in an alliance that will allow Malaysia to remain free, secular and democratic," he added.
Present at the function was PPP president Datuk M Kayveas, PKR MP for Padang Serai N Gobalakrishnan and former PKR secretary general Datuk Salahuddin Hashim.
Kayveas told reporters that his presence at the launch did not mean that he was joining KITA. -- BERNAMA
