PETALING JAYA: An internal investigation has commenced against a police personnel who failed to respond to a distress call from a journalist who was pursued by an axe-wielding burglar on Monday.
Two disciplinary unit officers from the Ampang Jaya police district recorded a statement from FMT journalist Teoh El Sen at the news portal’s office in Damansara Intan here this afternoon.
On Monday, Teoh lodged a complaint against Lance Corporal Murni Ramli of the Pandan Perdana police station for dismissing Teoh’s complaint over a burglary in Ampang.
Teoh, 25, and his girlfriend were dropping off the latter’s teenage cousin at his house in Pandan Perdana on Monday night when they walked into a burglary in progress.
As the teenager locked himself in a room for safety, the burglar pointed an axe at the couple who ran to the street and got into a taxi.
Noticing that the burglar was still pursuing them, Teoh called the Pandan Perdana police station for help but was rudely dismissed by Murni who told Teoh to call another number for assistance.
On arriving at the police station, Murni, who was stationed there, also scoffed at Teoh despite the latter’s attempt to point out the personnel’s rude behaviour.
Disciplinary unit officer, Sergeant Major Ting Kim Choo, who took Teoh’s statement told the latter that they had also questioned Murni and another officer who was present at the scene.
She also said they were planning to record a statement from Teoh’s girlfriend and other witnesses.
Teoh said the police officer assured him that they would take action against Murni if he was found guilty of professional misconduct.
“I was told Murni can either be fined or transferred, among others, if found guilty,” said Teoh.
It is learnt that Murni had gone for several counselling sessions last year due to complaints over his communication skills. FMT
