Zakaria’s mansion: Family submits appeal - malaysiakini

By CHRISTINA TAN

KLANG: The family of the late Datuk Zakaria Md Deros has apologised for building a fence and planting fruits on the state land before getting approval.
“We did not intent to go against the law,” said Zakaria’s son Zainuri who represented his family members.
Zainuri said the family had applied for temporary occupation of the land from the district office on Jun 25, 2007, however, the family did not get any reply.
The family only found out its application had been rejected through a press statement made by the Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim last Wednesday, he said.
Zainuri said his family had submitted a letter of appeal to the district office on Monday after a family discussion.
“We pray and hope the district office and the state government would reconsider our application and allow us to keep the plants and turn it into a green area.
“We will appoint a licensed surveyor and rebuild a new fencing at our border,” he said, adding that the family received a notice dated Nov 13 from the district office last week requesting them to clear the land.
Zainuri said the family also hoped the present fencing could be retained to protect the green area.
He added that his family had occupied the land by building fencing and growing fruits because they believed the state government had no plans for the land.
However, he said no permanent structures were built.
Zainuri also said his mother was upset by the matter and the family hoped the issue could be resolved as soon as possible.
The late former Port Klang state assemblymans was in the limelight again when former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo had thrown several challenges at the Pakatan Rakyat state government during state assembly meeting to take action over the dead man’s controversial mansion in Kampung Idaman here.
On Nov 12, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was reported saying that Zakaria’s family was given a month to remove the fencing of the mansion that was built on 2,267 sq m state land.
Zakaria, a former Klang councillor, hogged the headlines last year when he had a run-in with the law for not submitting the building plans for the mansion.
He died of a heart attack shortly after the March general election. -- the Star Online

Selangor to evict Zakaria's family from state land - malaysiakini

SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 –The Selangor state executive council today decided that the family of the late Datuk Zakaria Md Deros, the former Port Klang state assemblyman, must vacate the 2,269 square metre land in Pandamaran, Klang, adjacent to the bungalow he had built.
“The state exco today directed the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to tell the late Zakaria’s family to vacate within a month and issue a compoundable summons for encroaching on state land.

“If they fail to do so, the state government will take the case to court for encroachment,” he said at a news conference after the state exco meeting here today.

He said the bungalow lot of 4,049 square metres was not in the vacation order but a fine of RM19,373 was imposed on Zakaria by MPK as its construction early in 2006 was done without approval by the local authority.

He said according to records, the district land committe on last Dec 14, rejected a land ownership application for the land and decided that any appeal should be made to the state exco.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid said the state government will provide assistance to solve the problem of council homes rentals of those who had a household income of less than RM1,500 a month and the disabled.

The aid was given as the state government cared for the people’s welfare following the rise in rental from RM124 to RM250 a month.

Applications for aid can be made at the Selangor Property and Housing Board at 5th Floor, North Podium, Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah here or through the respective state assemblymen. – Bernama
