LDP CALLS FOR REVIEW OF ISA - malaysiakini

SANDAKAN, Nov 2 - The Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) 19th annual congress today passed a resolution calling on the government to review the Internal Security Act (ISA) and New Economic Policy (NEP).
More than 1,000 party delegates at the congress unanimously passed the resolution before the one-day congress was closed by LDP president Datuk Liew Vui Keong.
Liew, who is also Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said the LDP strongly urged the government to review the ISA to determine if it was still relevant and define the scope of the Act within which it was applicable.
“We also strongly urge the government to review the NEP comprehensively to reflect the current political, social and economic realities in Malaysia,” he said when met by reporters after the congress, here.
He said the LDP top leadership would study the resolution and submit it to the Barisan Nasional top leadership and government.
Liew said another resolution passed by the congress was on the appointment of former LDP president Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat as the party’s life honorary advisor.
Earlier, when opening the congress, Liew said the ISA was no longer relevant as Malaysia no longer faced any communist insurgency as it did in the 1960’s.
“The situation has since changed. While we cannot deny that global terrorism is a threat to national security, we must have a comprehensive policy to deal with terrorists as distinct from legitimate political opponents and dissidents,” he said.
Liew said a review of the NEP could come from a broad-based convention that was less influenced by partisan political interests and would deliberate and analyse the results and impact of the various NEP-based policies and programmes.
“This convention can then formulate a new national development philosophy and strategy that is fairer to all the communities in the country. It can set up a road map for a more dynamic, equitable and inclusive Malaysia,” he added. - Bernama

LDP, MCA, Gerakan, MIC can make all the resolutions they want at their party conventions.
Do you think UMNO cares?
What can all these parties do if UMNO ignores all these resolutions?

These parties are actually the government and yet you ask the government to review the ISA.
Are you saying UMNO is the government and you all the beggars?

Another flip-flop stooge now claiming to be hero.

Let me refresh you on an earlier statement by LDP supporting ISA action against RPK, Sin Chew reporter, Tan and MP Teresa Kok.

"Kuala Lumpur: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Datuk Liew Vui Keong said there were sufficient grounds for the Government to use the ISA on blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok and Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng.

Liew, who is Deputy International Trade and Industry Ministry, said he was shocked when he heard the news of the detentions Friday night but after being briefed on the reasons for the detention and listening to a statement from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi that the Government would not take such action without reason, he understood why the action was taken.

"I believe in this particular case there are sufficient reasons for the Government to act," he told reporters after officiating the 2008 Zhanjiang-Malaysia Trade & Economic Co-operation Seminar, here.

He said the Government decided to take action against those who stirred up sensitive issues." http://www.dailyexpress.com.my/news.cfm?NewsID=59880
