The ship carries 90 cadets from the Russian Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University. The current trip started in January 2014 in Vladivostok, the Harbour at Russia’s Pacific Coast. During the present trip “Pallada” will cover thousands miles and visit 4 countries of the Asia Pacific. They are South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
While staying in Penang the crew will grant honors to the grave of the sailors of the Russian cruiser “Zhemchug” (“The Pearl”) sunk by the German cruiser “Emden” on October 28, 1914 in Georgetown bay during the 1st World War military operations here.
“Pallada” was constructed in 1989 and since then has kept sailing for 25 years.
Several thousands Russian and foreign cadets from Holland, Vietnam, Mexico, Arab countries conducted their training on its board. The vessel usually makes 5-6 voyages per year. She is proud of vast geography of calls: Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, USA and many other countries.
“Pallada” has gained honorable international reputation by its participation in different international regattas and sailing festivals in Europe, America, Australia and Asia, where she always was awarded top prizes.
Within the framework of the program of activities during the stay of “Pallada” in Penang it is settled that on Thursday morning February 27, the Russian sailing ship “Pallada” is due to arrive to Gorgetown.
The vessel will be opened for public on Friday February 28 from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday March 2 from 10 am till noon. The public and guests of Malaysia are warmly invited to visit this impressive voyager and to get acquainted with its crew and Maritime Museum on board highlighting the past and the present of the Russian Navy. - Bernama"
