UMNO MONEY POLITICS: ACA PROBING NINE HIGH PROFILE CASES IN KEDAH - malaysiakini

ALOR STAR, Nov 4 - The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) is investigating nine high profile cases in Kedah involving politicians who allegedly gave delegates money during the recent Umno divisional elections.
Kedah ACA director Nooraziah Abdul Manaf said investigations were also conducted into Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak's allegations of corrupt practices in several government-linked companies.
She said the investigation involving the politicians was based on reports from Umno delegates after the divisional meetings last month.
“ACA investigates all cases of corruption. But in cases involving Umno politics, we find it hard to act as the complainants do not want to cooperate,” she said at a handing over of duty ceremony here today.
Acting Deputy Commissioner I Nooraziah took over as Kedah director from Senior Assistant Commissioner Idrus Jaaffar who has been transferred to Penang as deputy director.
She said investigations into the GLCs was running smoothy and showed positive development.
“We do not coax the complainants or witnesses. It is up to them whether they want to make statements or not. That is why some cases can be solved quickly while others take years.”
Nooraziah said the first 10 months saw 28 people detained based on 736 leads compared to 23 detained on 739 leads over the corresponding period last year.
Of the 736 leads, only 423 had corrupt elements, leading to the opening of 51 cases and seizure of RM8,775.- Bernama
