Judgment day for Altantuya murder

SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The High Court will today announce its judgment on two elite policemen accused of killing Altantuya Shaariibuu, which the opposition has tried to link to the country's prime minister.

Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Omar can either face hanging or walk free in the sensational murder trial that involved Datuk Seri Najib Razak's friend, political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.

Razak was acquitted last year but the two policemen, who are part of a VIP security detail, had their defence called.

Police say Altantuya was shot and blown up on Oct 19, 2006 after she was last seen outside Razak's house in the leafy Damansara suburb.

They have only found some bones identified as hers from a scorched area near Bukit Raja in Shah Alam. -- The Malaysian Insider
