KOTA BAHARU, Oct 2 — Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said there was no power transition period for him for as long as the party did not ask him to step down from his post.
He said he should know better to decide when to withdraw or continue to hold the post without being pressured by any quarters.
“What’s wrong with continuing (as mentri besar)? Is there a time limit as mentri besar?” he said to reporters after delivering a Friday lecture at Dataran Ilmu, here, today.
The PAS spiritual leader was asked to comment on calls from certain quarters, including Pasir Mas member of parliament Datuk Ibrahim Ali, saying that he was already old and had held the menteri besar post for so long, thus he should make way for another leader to take over.
“There is no power transition for me, I should know better. If people in the party want me to step down, I can do so today. So far, I’ve not heard of party members asking me to quit my MB post,” he said.
Nik Aziz had before stated that he would not step down if pressured by any quarters who had nothing to do with the party, but would do so if the pressure came from within the party.
Ibrahim had suggested that Nik Aziz relinquish his mentri besar post in response to Nik Aziz asking him to quit his MP post, saying that he (Ibrahim) had abused the constituents’ trust in him although he had won the seat in the last general alection on a PAS ticket.
On unpaid oil royalty, Nik Aziz said he could only pray to God to open the hearts of the federal government leaders to make the payment soon, “as prayer is the only weapon of those who have faith in God”. — Bernama
