KUALA KUBU BAHRU, April 16 — There is dissatisfaction on the ground because Datuk G. Palanivel was not chosen to contest the Hulu Selangor by-election, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu admitted today.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chose MIC information chief P. Kamalanathan over Palanivel for the April 25 by-election, citing the need for a fresh face in the seat lost to PKR in Election 2008.
“Of our 72 MIC branches, about 20 are protesting because Palanivel was not chosen,” Samy Vellu told reporters here.
However, the MIC president said he had explained to them that the issue had been decided by the prime minister.
“Datuk Seri Najib Razak will meet Palanivel when he returns from overseas and the outcome of that meeting will be made public,” he added.
He noted that the deputy MIC president is already on the ground campaigning for Kamalanathan, who is the compromise candidate as Umno was keen on MIC Youth deputy leader V. Mugilan.
