KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Sheikh Mustapha Sheikh Shukor has vehemently denied that Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) sponsored the wedding reception of his son Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar on Oct 10.
In a statement, he said the wedding gala night, held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), was organised by the wedding planner Cosry Wise (M) Sdn Bhd and event partners which included Datuk Bernard Chandran, Mouawad, Jakel, Bibah Songket, Lewre’ and TV3 as event broadcaster.
At the Selangor state assembly earlier this month, Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungib had made several allegations against PKNS, including that it had funded a RM520,000 wedding dinner for the Malaysian astronaut.
Sheikh Mustapha said the allegation that the Astronaut Dinner was organised in conjunction with his son’s wedding was also not true.
“PKNS organised a Signing of MOU with Advanced Science Education Asia Sdn Bhd to set up an International Aerospace & Science Discovery Centre at PKNS Science Park in Cyberjaya, followed by a dinner with 120 astronauts and their spouses from several countries,” he said.
Sheikh Mustapha said it was his responsibility to come forward and deny such allegations as Sheikh Muszaphar and wife Dr Halina Mohd Yunos were away performing the haj in Mecca.
He also expressed disappointment that some newspapers had published the allegation without first verifying its validity. - NST
